8 Days Specials X-Mas and New Year

Grey-cloudy Christmas spoil your mood? Do you see New Year’s fireworks as useless pollution? Then we have the counter-program for you here: white Christmas is almost guaranteed in Lapland and on New Year’s Eve we often have a very special firework with exploding northern lights in the sky.

We have come up with a program for you where you can spend the holidays relaxed and at the same time experience a wide range of winter activities in Lapland, including a lot of cuddle time with our dogs of course. We deliberately chose the program so that it is also suitable for families with children from around 8 years of age, but that shouldn’t stop a group of friends from booking. Since we know that these public holidays in particular often have different school holiday and vacation dates, all dates can still be flexibly adjusted. And we are also happy to adapt the program to your wishes.

The following program is therefore only a rough suggestion and varies in the order of activities depending on the date as well as weather and trail conditions.

Program

Day 1

We will pick you up from Arvidsjaur or Jörn. As soon as you arrive at our guest house in Glommersträsk you will realize how quiet it is and start to calm down from every day life. During dinner you will meet the rest of your group and we will talk about what will happen the next days.

Day 2

After a delicious breakfast we will pick you up for your introduction tour. First you will get your clothes for the next days and we will take time to meet the dogs. Afterwards you will get an instruction how to drive a sled and handle the dogs. We will take out the dogs together, put the harnesses on, take them on the line and faster than you think we are ready to start. Today we will drive a tour of approximately 20km. Then we come back to the kennel, take care for the dogs and do a lunch break. After that you will have more time to cuddle the dogs. On the Christmas date we use the afternoon to get a Christmas tree. During dinner we will talk about your experiences from the day and answer questions how to improve sledding.

Day 3

Today we are going on a snowshoe tour. With a bit of luck we will find reindeer, foxes, rabbits, birds or at least their tracks. Maybe you also want to try your luck with some ice fishing? In the afternoon we will have time to decorate the Christmas tree (applies to the Christmas date of course).

Days 4-5

Now a new adventure starts: we will go out on an overnight tour. Around lunch time we will prepare our equipment and as soon as we are ready we take out the dogs and the adventure begins. We will drive a tour through forests, over swamps, lakes and open fields with a night outside in a wilderness cabin or in a (heated) tent. The daily stages will be between 20 and 30km depending on trail and weather conditions. All tasks on tour will be shared in the group and carried out as a team, from feeding and taking care for the dogs, over collecting/making fire wood, getting water or melting snow to preparing meals. So, all of those tasks you haven’t done before, you will learn on tour. We will be back around lunch time on day 5. After caring for the dogs you can cuddle a bit more or relax in our guest house.

Day 6

In the morning a friend of us will pick you up to visit some reindeers. But since we prefer truly respectful work and life with animals you will not go to a farm where they are fenced to cuddle them. You will visit real Sami people and can watch the reindeers in their natural surroundings. Please be aware that you will probably not cuddle the reindeers, but you will have the opportunity to feed them. Maybe you are lucky and can take some antlers that the reindeers loose every year home as a memory.

In the afternoon/early evening we go on a Northern Lights tour, either by dog sled or by car and/or snowshoes.

Day 7

This day is a free day. Our dogs have time to relax after the tour and you can decide if you want to do the same or experience some other winter activities in the area. It is, for example, possible to walk with snow shoes to the kennel and cuddle the dogs one more time. For those who like it a bit more adventurous, it’s possible to do a snowmobile tour in Arvidsjaur or drive a car on a frozen lake.

Day 8

Now it’s time to say goodbye to the dogs… but just until your next tour 😉

Advice for the Sled Dog Tours

With participation of children, there will be one or more teams with double crew. That is, one drives the sled, one sits in it. If the children are old/strong enough, we can sometimes swap drivers.

Tour Requirements

This tour is suitable for all with normal physical fitness and health. No former sled dog experience is needed. For safety reasons for you and the dogs please read and respect our tour requirements regarding age and weight limits that you can find here.

Equipment

We provide you with the outer layer of clothes. To enjoy the tour it’s always good to have the right combination of clothes and equipment. So, please find our equipment recommendation here.

Changes

Since the tour is exclusive only for 4 people we have the possibility to adapt and customize it to your wishes. Just let us know. If you are a family of more than 4 please ask us so we can find a way to adapt the program for you.

Please be aware that changes in the program can be necessary if weather and trail conditions change.

Extension

Extra nights before or after the tour can be booked on request.
